PARAMOUNT PLUS – ONCE UPON A CRIME

The mystery series "Kohlrabenschwarz" is an adaptation of the radio play series of the same name, which deals with inexplicable phenomena and dark myths that suddenly manifest themselves in dramatic ways in modern times.

BRIEFING

Our beloved client Paramount + asked us to produce an opener and endcredit scene for the series by Tommy Krappweis and Michael Kessler that captures the same mood.

Within the series it is to be revealed that the protagonists resemble certain fairytale and saga characters. By setting them in stone we gave them a mysterious and ancient look, that haunts you from within the dusty corners, they are hiding. We want to play with the audiences’ viewing habits. Opener as well as end credit scene is meant to facilitate our entry into the cinematic reality of the series - a mental portal for the transition into a condensed atmosphere full of thrill, mysticism and suspense.

APPROACH

Our stone statues are enveloped in a diffuse light that clothes them in wandering shadows, their features blurred from darkness and light. Dust particles hang heavy in the air, tumbling from one realistic-looking statue to the next. Our camera circles them observantly, fooling us into thinking there is life in the figures through shifted perspectives. As fleeting as they are, movements pass by again just as quickly. Nothing here is as it seems - and everything has a second face!
