Unleash the magic!
is a quote that stuck with us for quite a while. So we thought it‘s about time to pay tribute to an iconic character, known as the one and only He-Man. We had a lot of fun creating our version of He-Man, a version that could actually be working in our studio.
BRIEFING
With hand-drawn characters, cel-shaded environments, a wacky liquid simulation and general awesomeness, we went on a nostalgic journey "Back to the 80s" and dug deep into the boxes of our animation skills and children's hearts. A slight wink to the new and older generation of coffee-loving, shorts-wearing, gym-seeking kids out there. From dyrdee with love!
APPROACH
We wanted to create a contrast of traditional 2D animation transitioning seamlessly into full CG. While animating the 2D part frame by frame by hand, we put a lot of effort into each pose to make our He-Man as wierd as possible.
Making Of
The 3D animation is a wild mix of liquid simulations, glassy shading and neon lights. While beeing technically challenging and state of the art, we wanted to add a funny twist by rendering the shot with cheesy colors and materials.
